Capital, Estates and Facilities

Our Capital, Estates & Facilities (CEF) directorate keeps our Trust’s buildings safe, efficient and welcoming for patients, staff and visitors. Across Greater Manchester, our 300-plus-strong team supports more than 100 buildings, ensuring that every environment operates smoothly, efficiently and sustainably. Whether in engineering, gardening, catering, cleaning or portering, every role is essential — and every colleague plays a direct part in supporting high-quality patient care.

Our work is wide-ranging and impactful. We plan and deliver capital improvements across the Trust, manage our property portfolio, maintain the fabric and infrastructure of our estate, and run the essential day-to-day facilities that keep services moving. From the walls, floors and windows to heating, ventilation, power and grounds, our teams work tirelessly to create safe, effective and high-quality care environments. We are also committed to minimising our environmental impact and ensuring our estate evolves to meet the needs of our communities. Our management team is based at Harrop House in Prestwich, but our services extend right across the North West.

Benefits of Working in CEF

Working in CEF is both rewarding and supportive. You’ll have countless opportunities to grow through on-the-job development, formal learning and an expanding range of apprenticeships that help people at all levels build their skills and progress their careers. From day one, you’ll join a team that values work–life balance and offers generous NHS benefits — including competitive pay, pension and leave — so you can focus on making a real difference.

We pride ourselves on listening to our people and continually improving the way we work. Our annual CEF Said, Together CEF Did survey invites colleagues to share their experiences and ideas, helping shape meaningful service improvements each year. We also celebrate our profession through our annual Estates and Facilities Day, where teams come together to reflect on achievements, showcase innovation and recognise outstanding contributions. As part of our commitment to staying connected with frontline reality, our management team also takes part in a yearly back to the floor initiative — working alongside colleagues, showing appreciation and experiencing day-to-day challenges first-hand.

We’re equally passionate about inspiring future professionals. Our teams regularly take part in outreach work with local schools, helping young people discover the wide range of career paths within Capital, Estates and Facilities, and offering staff the chance to get involved in shaping the workforce of tomorrow.

Working in Capital, Estates and Facilities at GMMH is more than a job — it’s a chance to build a meaningful career, develop valuable technical and leadership skills, enjoy strong teamwork and see first-hand how your work improves people’s experience of care. We are proud to champion the individuals who keep our Trust running and committed to supporting every colleague to thrive and grow.
