Memory clinics

The Trust's Memory Clinics are specialist services which comprehensively assess and diagnose the nature of a person's memory difficulties. The Trust has clinics based at Laureate House at Wythenshawe Hospital and Park House at North Manchester General Hospital.

The Memory Clinics take referrals primarily from General Practitioners (GPs) and aim to meet the needs of people who are concerned they may have a memory problem.

The clinics are staffed by specialist doctors, nurses and psychologists qualified in diagnosing and treating memory problems.

The service comprehensively assesses and diagnoses the nature of the person's memory difficulties before reporting to the GP, and advising on further treatment or intervention.

Everyone referred to the clinic will be seen initially by a specialist named nurse, ideally in the client's own home. The results of this first assessment will help decide who the client will see next in order to best meet their individual needs and subsequent visits are usually to outpatient offices where they will usually be seen by either a nurse or clinical psychologist and sometimes by a doctor.
