Facilities Services

Our Facilities Service is all about creating a clean, comfortable and functional environment inside our hospitals and offices. Our catering, cleaning and portering teams make sure patients and staff have everything they need day-to-day. We provide meals and manage cafés, so that nutrition and comfort are never in short supply. Housekeeping (domestics) and laundry teams keep wards spotless and stocked with clean linens. Porters and transport services move patients, staff and supplies safely around our sites. We also run washrooms, pest control, parking services, supply stores, waste disposal and security. In short, if it helps someone feel cared for or makes a ward function smoothly, our Facilities team handles it.

Our Facilities services include:

  • Catering & Cafés — hospital food services and vending
  • Domestics — maintaining hygiene in patient areas and offices
  • Linen & Laundry Services — supplying clean bedding and uniforms
  • Portering & Patient Transport — moving patients and equipment
  • Washroom Services — providing supplies and hygiene in restrooms
  • Pest Control — keeping buildings free of pests
  • Car Parking & Transport Coordination — managing staff/patient parking and site vehicles
  • Stores & Inventory Management — controlling supplies and equipment
  • Waste Management — safe disposal of clinical and general waste
  • Security Services — ensuring site and personal safety

Every role in Facilities is essential to daily care. Whether you’re preparing food or securing a door, you’ll be helping staff focus on their clinical work in a safe, welcoming setting.

The best parts of the job for me is the variety and the people. I enjoy the challenge of looking at different areas of facilities and working with different teams. There are incredible people in the NHS and doing my part to support them to deliver great care is a real positive. — Chris Oldland, Deputy Waste and Logistics Manager

The CEF department is like the backbone of GMMH operations. It's a meaningful role when you are contributing to the operations from behind the scenes. I have been pleasantly surprised by how much my role emphasises on a human-centred approach. — Ngai Ching (Ron), CEF Help Desk Advisor

It's rewarding to have such a positive impact on a service user or colleagues day. Food is medicine, and it really can be a highlight in someone's day or it can be an experience that makes the day a little bit better. It's a pleasure to work within such a great team, one that is so supportive of each other, not just in catering but the wider directorate also. — Mike Jones, Catering Operations Manager
