Estate Services
Our Estates Service keeps our buildings and grounds in excellent condition. We maintain the fabric of our estates; the walls, roofs, floors and windows, as well as the essential systems inside them, including heating, power, plumbing and ventilation. We also care for the grounds and gardens around our sites. Every day, our focus is on safety, compliance and reliability, ensuring each building meets legal regulations, NHS standards, and the needs of the people who use them. That’s why our Estates team remains vigilant about risk management, preventative work and maintaining the highest standards of infection control. We deliver these services directly or through expert specialist contractors.
But great Estates work isn’t only about technical skill, it’s about people. We’re looking for individuals with a strong service ethos, who understand that every task completed helps make someone’s day safer, easier or more comfortable. Whether you are fixing a window, checking medical gases, maintaining a boiler or repairing a roof, the work you do directly affects patients, visitors and staff. Estates roles are inherently interpersonal, our teams interact daily with colleagues across wards, community services and clinical areas, and compassionate communication is a key part of what we do.
There is also a guardianship aspect to this work. Our Estates teams are not just repairing buildings — they are actively safeguarding the environments where care is delivered. From fire safety and security to infection control and emergency repairs, our staff play a vital role in keeping people safe, protecting our estate and ensuring services can run smoothly without interruption.
Our Estates services include:
-
Planned Preventative Maintenance — scheduled upkeep of equipment and systems
-
New Works Projects — small refurbishments and improvements
-
Space Planning & Utilisation — ensuring our sites use space efficiently
-
Fire Safety Management — keeping buildings safe and delivering essential training
-
Medical Device Maintenance — servicing equipment and meeting NHS standards
Work in Estates is varied and hands-on — one moment you may be overseeing a boiler service, the next arranging urgent repairs after a storm. Through it all, you will be helping to ensure a safe, efficient and welcoming environment for everyone in our care.
We are committed to supporting your development and ambitions. Whether you are experienced in your trade or looking to advance your career, we offer training opportunities, professional development and apprenticeships to help you grow. At GMMH, you’ll join a team that values both your technical expertise and your dedication to helping people — because in Estates, compassion and care are just as important as tools and trade.
There are lots of opportunities within the NHS, and I have had several opportunities to progress since joining. There will always be opportunities to learn and develop within the department due to the sheer amount of options available. — Paul Hargreaves, Information Systems Officer
Everyday is unique, as part of a small specialist team I get to make a positive impact. This ensures staff and patients are safe from the Risk of fire. — Alan Hudson, Fire Safety Advisor
