Back to face to face learning

The Recovery Academy is back in in the classroom and we can’t wait to see you!

We’ve got all our usual courses to support you and the people you care for to maintain good mental health during these difficult times, as well as all the electronic resources we built during the pandemic.

The Recovery Academy, run by GMMH, provides a range of free educational courses and resources for GMMH staff, current and former patients and their families, friends and carers as well as other health care professionals.

We have created a new Learner Management System that houses the following:

  • all our usual face to face courses, categorised for easy access
  • self help materials
  • self help videos
  • e-learning packages
  • radio podcasts.

You will see we’ve introduced two new course categories as follows:

Kick Starting Your Recovery – these courses are for people with lived experience of mental health and/or addiction difficulties who are new to the Recovery Academy, unsure what recovery is or have low self-esteem.

Learning a New Skill Set  for people who want to get involved with the Recovery Academy or set up their own peer support groups, Social Enterprise or Community Interest Companies. These courses will help you develop group facilitation skills, teaching, training and leadership or coaching skills.

We are so pleased to be back providing face to face learning and want to reassure you that we have risk assessed all our venues and are only using large rooms where social distancing can be respected. If you would like to see a copy of our COVID-19 risk assessments, please do get in touch.

We will be asking all our students to comply with changes brought in because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. All students will be asked to social distance, wear face coverings and hand sanitizer will be provided.

Our courses are still free for everyone and although things might be a little different when you attend a course, you’ll still be able to enjoy our unique learning experience. And you’ll still be given a warm and safe welcome by our friendly – if socially distant – staff and volunteers.

Your safety is our priority and with the range of products on offer, there really is no better time to be joining us as a Recovery Academy student.

Service users and carers can register and access all our courses on our website here and staff and volunteers can access them on the Learning Hub, where you access things like mandatory training, supervision and appraisal etc.

All our products are co-written and co-delivered by professionals and people with mental health and/or substance misuse problems, which mean the courses are enriched by professional expertise and lived experience.

If you need to contact the Recovery Academy team, please email us at recoveryacademy@gmmh.nhs.uk, or telephone us on 0161 358 1771.
