“It’s a special time to be involved with families”

“I got interested in mental health nursing following a work experience placement. I initially completed a diploma in Nursing. I studied for my degree part-time over 2 years, whilst in full-time employment. Though it was hard at times balancing both studying and working, I’m happy I did it this way.”

My role

“A typical day in my role will involved visiting patients to deliver their care plan, carry out risk assessments and manage any risks. I will also liaise with other care professionals involved in the patients’ care. We work with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure that all care needs are met.”

“One of the things I like most about this role is seeing patients’ high motivation to engage and get better. It’s a special time to be involved with families.”

“I also enjoy focussing on the bigger picture of family relationships, like attachment and bonding, alongside the mental health needs we support.”

“We have a really good team here, and I have a supportive team manager, so any challenges are met together as a team.”

“Speak to practitioners in the field for an insight into the role. Be prepared for  high level of responsibility, the role is good for autonomous working so be confident in working this way.”
