Breaking Free Online

Breaking Free Online is a digital cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) programme that was initially developed in 2010 by a team of psychologists and substance misuse specialists based in Greater Manchester.

The programme specialises in supporting lasting behaviour change for those struggling with alcohol and drug use and integrates evidence-based therapeutic approaches such as mindfulness, relapse prevention and motivational enhancement.

Service users across Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) can start using Breaking Free straight away. The programme is designed to help people understand what might be driving their drug or alcohol use, and then through learning psychological and behavioural techniques, help them cope and control their drug or alcohol use and make positive changes to the lifestyle and health.

The video below explains more about the programme.

Please speak to a member of staff at Achieve for an access code. Or contact Lyndsey Chadderton on Lyndsey.chadderton@gmmh.nhs.uk or 07917 615 745.

Once you have an access code, go to the Breaking Free Online website and click sign up to create your account.

If you have an Android phone or iPhone, download the free Companion app too. Search for: ‘Breaking Free Companion UK’.
