Return to Practice Nursing Programmes

A number of North West universities are offering Return to Practice nursing programmes, allowing those who have left the profession to return and gain nursing registration.

Anyone who has previously been a registered nurse, and wishes to return to the profession, would need to complete a Return to Practice (RtP) programme, which will update the skills and knowledge necessary to work in nursing.

The duration of these courses are approximately three months, but the course can take longer depending on clinical placement hour requirements and length of time in and out of practice. The course is also flexible and will therefore fit around existing commitments.

The course fees will be covered by Health Education England, along with an additional £500 of financial support for each student on the RtP programme. As part of the programme, there will be a clinical placement with supernumerary status, theory and clinical-based training, access to a mentor, and support from a preceptor once in employment.
