Overview
The care responders study is looking at how first responders can better help young people experiencing a mental health crisis.
Summary
What is the study about?
When a young person needs immediate help for a mental health crisis, first responders often visit to help them. The helpers might be police officers, ambulance paramedics, social workers, or mental health practitioners.
GMMH is a Participant Identification Centre (PIC) for this study, meaning that we do not carry out the research. If you are interested in taking part in this study, please review the Key Documents and contact the lead researcher (details at the bottom of this page).
What are you trying to find out?
We would like to find out if this support works well and what could be improved.

We are inviting you to take part in this study because you are a young person aged 5 to 18 years old who has received help from a first responder for mental health struggles.
What does taking part involve?

- A member of our research team will talk with you about the study.
- You will be asked to fill in a consent form to say you are happy to take part.
- A member of our research team will ask you some questions about your experiences of mental health support from first responders and how you feel about the support you received.
- You will be asked if you would like to receive a summary of what we find out from our research study.
You will receive a £10 voucher at your interview as a thank you for your time.
As part of the research, we are also working with Made by Mortals, who will be running some workshops to develop a piece of immersive theatre that will be performed to a range of audiences, talking about people’s experiences of the care they have received. You can choose to take part in this if you would like to. Please ask a member of our team for information if you would like to hear more.
Why is it important?
We hope that taking part in the research is meaningful for you. By taking part in this research, you will be able to tell us what you think of the care you have received. This will be useful in understanding how we can better help young people accessing crisis care in the future.
