Volunteering at The Moorside Unit
The Moorside Unit in Trafford has had a long-standing and dedicated volunteer team for many years with a diverse group of volunteers.
The Volunteer Activity Assistant role has proven to be a very popular role with five members of the existing team volunteering their time and skills for between 10 – 14 years! A big thank you to them for their commitment over the years and to those who are new to giving their time at Moorside; they all make a valued contribution.
The Volunteer Activity Assistants provide social support; a warm welcome, a cup of tea or coffee and a listening ear, whilst engaging in activities such as playing pool, table tennis, board and card games and puzzles. They are encouraged to share their hobbies and interests such as playing chess, crafts, art, gardening, and discussing current affairs, in the unit’s main activity room and on the wards too which means that all service users have the opportunity to benefit from their involvement.
Our volunteer workforce at The Moorside Unit currently stands at 15 volunteers, with plans to recruit to a newly developed role of Volunteer Feedback Facilitator to support those accessing inpatient services in Trafford to feedback on their care and treatment.
We heard from two of our current volunteers at Moorside to find out more,
“I volunteer to give back to the Trust that has helped in keeping me well for many years. If I can help one patient or several during the session I cofacilitate then it has been time well spent".
“I have been volunteering at Moorside for just over a year now. I volunteer because if I can just make somebody's day a little bit better by being there and showing encouragement, making them a hot drink, or just listening to them, I feel it makes a massive difference to them and also myself. I'm very grateful for the opportunity to volunteer at Moorside. I hope I make a difference”.
