New Recovery Academy Term launches with brand-new free face-to-face courses!

The Recovery Academy is pleased to launch our latest offer of free courses and online resources for April to September 2022, and we can’t wait to see you!

The Academy was launched in 2013 and has become a highly regarded and well-established education and training facility. The overarching aim of GMMH’s Academy is to provide everyone: service users, families, and carers, as well as professionals, with the learning opportunities they need to be able to manage and promote good mental health and wellbeing.

At the heart of the Academy, you will find our core values that support an empowering, inclusive, and educational approach to recovery. This includes ensuring that there is co-production at every level, meaning all our resources are co-produced and co-delivered by professionals and people with lived experience. This ensures both professional expertise and lived experience are recognised with equal importance and promotes shared learning.

With over 65 courses on offer, this term is packed with a variety of face-to face and online learning. You will find a range of brand-new courses including Yoga and Wellbeing, Hepatitis C: Enhancing Testing, Prevention and Care and Comedy and Wellbeing, alongside many tried and tested favourites focusing on Trauma, Personality Disorder, Motivational Interviewing, Addiction, Depression, and Dementia (among others).

Face to face courses are available at various locations across Manchester, Bolton, Salford, Trafford and Wigan.

The Academy is free to access and available to:

  • GMMH staff members, volunteers and students on placement.
  • Anyone who is experiencing mental health or substance misuse problems.
  • Their supporters (family, friends and loved ones).
  • Any Health Care Professionals.

One member of staff, who recently attended the ‘Let’s talk about Suicide’ course said:

I feel this is an area that even as professionals, we don’t discuss as much as we should. The course was informative, and I left with a lot more knowledge than I arrived with.

Staff and volunteers can access all our resources on the Learning Hub.

Service users and carers can register as a student with the Recovery Academy and access all face-to-face courses and online resources for free by visiting  www.gmmh.nhs.uk/free-courses  and creating an account.

The Recovery Academy also works in partnership with Open Awards, an external awarding body, who enable us to offer a range of accredited courses. Courses include:

  • Level 3 Motivational Interviewing
  • Level 3 Facilitating Self-help groups
  • Level 3 Behavioural Activation Skills - A therapeutic approach.

There is a £100 charge for accredited courses to cover accreditation costs. To discuss this further and secure your place today, please contact the Recovery Academy directly.

A staff member who recently attended the Level 3 Behavioural Activation Skills course said:

“I enjoyed the whole course, the teaching and the varied methods of assessing our understanding”.
