GMMH’s Recovery Academy partners with the UK’s largest law school

We are really proud to announce two new free Recovery Academy webinars with The University of Law – one of the UK’s largest law schools.

The Recovery Academy is GMMH’s inclusive learning facility providing courses run by and for those with lived experience of mental health and alcohol and drug problems. We pride ourselves on offering courses by professional organisations, so that our students have the opportunity to learn from professionals in a variety of fields.

We are so excited to be working with The University of Law, one of the UK’s longest-established specialist providers of legal education, as this high-profile partnership ensures that our students benefit from the latest insights from the legal profession.

The new free webinars are:

Your Legal Rights Under the Mental Health Act

8 February 2021

Time: 1pm to 3pm

It is of great importance that you know your rights if you are ever detained under the Mental Health Act, or you are already detained. It is also important that people who work in mental health know these rights and ensure they are upheld and adhered to. Family members, friends and loved ones are also welcome to attend.

DBS Disclosure and Your Rights Under The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act

1 March 2021

Time: 1pm to 3pm

If you are somebody that has a criminal record, it is really important that you know your rights under The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, particularly regarding what you are legally obliged to disclose to any future employer about any previous convictions you may have.

You do have rights and this webinar will explore what these rights are, what the law says and how this could affect you.

Both webinars are aimed at GMMH staff and volunteers as well as our service users, carers, anyone with mental health problems and other healthcare professionals.

The webinars will be delivered by ULaw students training to be barristers and supported by Fay Sayers and Sabeeha Khan, Tutors & Supervising Solicitors at The University of Law.

They are free to access and take place online – Recovery Academy students will be sent a link to join once they’ve booked their place.
