GMMH joins the Queen’s Institute of Community Nursing

At GMMH, we have now gained Organisational Membership of the Queen’s Institute of Community Nursing (QICN). This is an exciting investment and development which aims to support the development of community staff with access to education, networking, and career opportunities.

This membership, which commenced in January 2026, enables all Community Nurses and Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) to access a dedicated resource platform. The platform offers a wide range of benefits for staff, including regular webinar events, career development opportunities, and political influencing sessions available to two senior members of staff.

In line with our Strategic Priorities of Delivering Care that Matters and Being Fit for The Future, this membership supports our commitment to continuous improvement in the services that we provide to our service users and carers. It does so by enabling us to make the best use of resources to deliver outcomes-focused care that is safe, effective and sustainable.

Tara Mcginley, Strategic Lead Advanced Clinical Practice has said:

“GMMH is delighted to become an organisational member of the Queen’s Institute for Community Nursing (QICN) as of Jan 2026. The QICN is the oldest professional nursing organisation in the UK, founded in 1887 by Florence Nightingale and William Rathbone. The charity was originally founded to organise the training of District Nurses and this was its core function until the 1960s. It was instrumental in developing a comprehensive, highly skilled service to meet the healthcare needs of millions of people in the community every year.

"Membership of the QICN will allow all our community nurses and AHP’s to access a range of benefits from the QICN, including CPD webinars, career development sessions, and a political influencing programme for staff to gain a deeper understanding of how local health services are affected by political decision making at a national level.

"Supporting staff training and development is key to GMMH’s commitment to delivering high quality care to patients, carers and wider communities and for reaching our Strategic Priority of Delivering Care that Matters. This is an exciting development which will support all our community nurses / AHP’s development to deliver such important care within the community.”
