GMMH introduces new inclusive menu with health and nutrition in mind

Our Board were recently invited to a taster session to try a new, innovative menu which is being rolled out across Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH), to services where in-house catering is served.

Our aim is to build a new menu which is more inclusive and caters for a range of cultural and dietary requirements. This includes incorporating Halal meats into starter, main and dessert dishes and offering more vegan and vegetarian based options.

To ensure this menu comes to life, we have employed two new members to join the Catering team: Barry Wilson, Catering and Development Lead and Ayowale Fatoki, Trust Head Chef (pictured).

Our talented new Chefs have developed options which are on trend including Street Food and ‘Fakeaways’. Fakeaways recreate popular takeaway options such as pizza, curries, and oriental meal options, but with a healthy spin; substituting ingredients which are high in fat with healthier alternatives such a vegetables and low fat and lower sugar versions.

Menus have historically varied across the Trust, another aim with rolling out new menus is to ensure that food quality and variety is more consistent to all patients and service users.

The team are currently developing a summer menu, which the Board were able to sample, feedback was very positive with staff citing that the food is tasty, inclusive and varied.

Following this tasting session, the Catering Team are visiting a range of local Trust sites, enabling patients and service users to try the new menu and gather feedback. The new menu will be rolled out in early July, 2024.
