CRN Greater Manchester celebrates International Clinical Trials Day

NIHR Clinical Research Network Greater Manchester (CRN GM) is hosting an online event to celebrate International Clinical Trials Day (ICTD).

In the midst of a global pandemic, the true value of research has become clearer than ever. High-profile studies for COVID-19 have resulted in vaccines protecting millions from the virus, and treatments which have saved countless lives. However, studies into COVID and all other disease areas are continuing - and there are lots of ways to #BePartOfResearch.

Our webinar will reflect on Greater Manchester's fantastic contribution to the life-changing research which has helped turn the tide on COVID-19 over the past year.

We'll also take a look at what's ahead. We'll share some of the upcoming research opportunities the public can get involved with here in Greater Manchester. And give an insight into some new initiatives our local workforce and partner organisations can benefit from.

Everyone is welcome. Whether you're a health professional or member of the public; whether you're involved in research already or might like to be in the future; or you just want to know more about research - please do log-in and join us.

The schedule for our webinar will feature:

How Greater Manchester has helped turn the tide on COVID-19 - An overview of the Urgent Public Health research that’s taken place in GM and its outcomes so far.

Taking part in ground-breaking COVID research - Local participants in COVID-19 vaccine and treatment trials explain why they volunteered - and what it was like to be part of this landmark research.

Working in ground-breaking COVID research - Local research staff explain what it’s been like to work on COVID studies through the pandemic and reflect on how it’s been the toughest but proudest moment of their careers. We'll hear from:

  • Sam Chilcott, CRN GM Nurse Manager
  • Samuel Hey, Early Career Researcher, North Manchester General Hospital
  • Sarah Yousif, inspired to become a research nurse because of the pandemic.

Be Part of Research in Greater Manchester - An insight into what’s happening next in Greater Manchester research. We'll hear from:

  • Katherine Grady, from Research for the Future, will explain how this local service is now open to all adults interested in research opportunities, hnd how it can help research teams across GM recruit suitable participants.
