buzz launches new video and wins awards for making Manchester’s neighbourhoods Age Friendly!

buzz Manchester Health & Wellbeing Service has released a brand new video to celebrate their recent relaunch, focusing on supporting residents of local communities to take control of their health and wellbeing in ways that interest and excite them. The new video showcases the extensive work buzz Manchester Health & Wellbeing Service carries out in Manchester’s diverse communities. You can watch the video here.

Fallowfield, Rusholme, Gorton and Wythenshawe have recently been recognised as age friendly neighbourhoods by Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, for the work buzz is carrying out with partners and older residents to make Manchester the best place to grow older. The Mayor’s Age Friendly Challenge award scheme recognises the best places to grow older in the Manchester city region. Age friendly neighbourhoods are places where residents are committed to looking out for each other, older people feel they can have a say in what’s going on in their local area, and there are spaces where people can get together. From gardening projects to knitting groups, buzz is bringing Manchester communities together through common interests that in turn benefit residents’ physical and mental health and wellbeing.

Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester said: “I launched this challenge in 2018 to unearth the positive work I know is going on in Greater Manchester, to find practical examples of what age friendly really means, and to share best practice across the city region. The response to this challenge has been fantastic. The variety of age-friendly work displayed from all our winners clearly shows the commitment from our local communities to make sure that people in Greater Manchester are living not just longer, but happier and healthier too.”
