S136 Training & Development Project

This team has been set up following funding received by the Department of Health to undertake projects to improve the mental health justice pathway. Over the recent years there have been a number of influential policy documents which have had a direct impact on services which work with mentally disordered offenders and it has been clear that there is further development required in this area.

The first project involves a training programme being delivered to services within the criminal justice pathway such as Greater Manchester Police, probation services and the courts. This training has been designed to provide criminal justice professionals with an understanding of mental health issues and to equip these staff with appropriate communication skills to engage with those with mental health issues effectively.
