Service User Council

Our highly valued critical friend

The Service User Council is a group of service users who meet once a month.

They share their experiences of services provided by Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) and focus on service improvement.

“With the aim of shaping service improvement through lived experience."

What is the Service User Council?

We are a group of people with living experience of mental ill health, distress and trauma who have current or recent experience of using GMMH services. We come together once a month to:

  • Seek assurance - we seek to make sure that the Trust captures the experiences and views of service users across the Trust services.
  • Shape service development - we get involved in the development and planning of new services.
  • Inform key projects and champion co-production - we identify themes and work on projects to continually improve services.
  • Connect with other forums - we aim to connect in with local service user forums to ensure that we can represent as many voices as possible.

Why have a Service User Council?

To learn from lived experience of service users to support the Trust’s improvement journey. We work alongside the Trust to represent the voice of service users. We are keen to make good connections with other service users at a local level.

The Service User Council works closely with the Trust to improve services for the service users and communities that we serve.

What our Service User Council members say

"When voices come together, change becomes possible. Every experience matters, every idea counts, and together we create services that listen, respond, and grow with our community. It’s a journey, not a destination.”

"I hope to bring my experiences as a service user to affect positive change across the trust and to have co production with service users at the heart of patient care and service delivery."
