Visit to Riverside

Eight staff members stand outside the Riverside Centre beside a large blue NHS sign for the main entrance, in front of a brick healthcare building.

Last month, we had the honour of welcoming the NHS England Medical Director for mental health and neurodiversity, Dr Adrian James and NHSE Clinical Fellow Dr Alex Caulfield (GP)to GMMH.

The visit was hosted by our Chief Medical Officer, Dr Arun Chidambaram, and provided an opportunity to discuss our work, priorities and ongoing improvement journey with colleagues from across the Trust.

During the visit, Dr James and Dr Caulfield met members of our Executive Leadership Team, visited our Adult Forensic wards at the Riverside Centre and heard more about our work on our human Culture of Care programme

They met with staff and service users to learn more about our adult forensic service and to see firsthand the improvement to the ward environment and the care provided to our service user by our skilled, kind and compassionate staff since we reopened for patient admission over one year ago.

The afternoon also included conversations with clinical and operational colleagues about some of the broader themes surrounding NHS mental health services and the importance of continuing to improve outcomes for the people who use our services and their families and carers.

Six staff members stand together in a clinical room, wearing NHS lanyards and business attire, posing for a group photograph.

Dr Chidambaram said:

“We were delighted to welcome Dr James to GMMH and to share some of the important work taking place across the Trust. His visit gave colleagues the opportunity to talk openly about our improvement priorities and the commitment of our teams to providing safe, compassionate and high-quality care. We are grateful for the time he spent with colleagues and for the constructive discussions throughout the day.”
