The Riverside Centre

Brick building with several windows and a blue sign in front reading 'Riverside Centre Main Entrance' with an arrow pointing right, surrounded by grass and fallen leaves.

We are pleased that the ‘Riverside Centre’ is the new name of our medium secure adult forensic mental health inpatient unit (formerly the Edenfield Centre).

This follows extensive engagement earlier this year with around 45% of our Edenfield inpatients, carers and staff.

We have spoken at length with inpatients, carers and staff at the Centre, and listened to their thoughts, feelings and ideas. They told us that they would like a new name which reflects their views and wishes to look forwards.

Together, we have agreed this important change, which marks a significant milestone in our recovery journey. It recognises our commitment to building better services and delivering care that matters for all our communities.

Karen Howell, Chief Executive of Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) said:

“This is about recognising that we're moving forward, reflecting on the past and working hand in glove with our service users and the staff who support those service users in that centre, to rebuild our medium and low secure services.”

We would like to say a huge thank you to every single person who fed back your thoughts, feelings and experiences to help us reach this decision together.

We look forward to working together to realise our vision of great places for care and great places to work.
