Nurses throughout Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) are today (May 12) joining their colleagues across the world in celebrating the critical role they play in providing compassionate and expert care .

Boxing legend Ricky Hatton MBE led a knockout celebration for the official opening of a new state-of-the-art inpatient mental health hospital for Manchester. 

Greater Manchester researchers have partnered with service users, carers, families, and community groups to explore an alternative approach to inpatient psychiatric admission – known as the ‘Soteria’ approach – for people experiencing extreme psychological states, often referred to as psychosis or mania.

A Joint Working project between Lilly UK, Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH), and 3 other NHS sites, supported by Dementias Platform UK (DPUK), has been shortlisted in the prestigious HSJ Partnership Awards 2025, for helping the NHS to use cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) testing for early Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis. 

‘The Southmoor Suite’ is a dedicated space for patients experiencing a mental health crisis who present at the Emergency Department of Wythenshawe hospital. 

People in Greater Manchester suffering from mental health issues this winter are urged to reach out for help and support from the NHS.

The new state-of-the-art £105.9million adult mental health inpatient hospital North View, built by Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH), became fully operational from Monday 18 November 2024.
