The UK government has given its final approval for Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) to build a brand-new mental health unit for adults in Manchester at North Manchester General Hospital (NMGH).

The Green Health Walk at the Prestwich site of GMMH is being featured in NHS England’s new photography exhibition, “Care for the future: delivering the world’s first net zero health service,” at COP26 - the United Nations Conference of the Parties.

The service runs an innovative assessment programme for people with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), which has been found to significantly increase the rate of dementia diagnosis, leading in many cases to earlier support and treatment.

GMMH has significantly improved patient experience and supported mental health system pressures through an innovative programme titled ‘The Perfect Week’.

In partnership with former Education Secretary Rt Hon Justine Greening and former Public Health Minister Rt Hon Anne Milton, GMMH will now produce a Levelling Up Impact Report to measure its impact against the Levelling Up Goals.

A series of embroidered portraits, created by service users from Recovery Pathways during a Black Arts Project, is currently being shown in an exhibition in Manchester for Black History Month.
