Two GMMH Teams Shine in NHS Chef of the Year 2025 Finals!

A group of six people dressed in formal evening attire standing together on a red carpet in front of a branded backdrop. The backdrop features multiple NHS-related logos and phrases such as “NHS Chef,” “Great Food Good Health,” “Sustainability,” “Workforce,” and “Education.” The individuals are wearing a mix of black outfits and sequined gowns, with some holding small handbags. The setting appears to be an awards or gala event.

We’re proud to celebrate the talented members of our catering team who reached the finals of the prestigious Chef of the Year 2025 competition!

The Grand Final took place at The Cookery School at The Grand in York from 20-24 October 2025. Representing North View, Joanne Downs and Karolina Morawiec showcased their culinary creativity, while Sosana Suk Han Chan and Amanda Barber from our Prestwich site impressed the judges and secured an incredible third place finish! Caroline Byrne also earned a spot in the final but had to withdraw, with Sosana stepping in to take her place.

Now in its fifth year, the competition celebrates the vital role NHS chefs play in supporting patients’ recovery through nutritious meals while working as part of a dedicated team.

The finalists were put through their paces, tasked with crafting a three-course meal with a £6-8 budget per portion, a low-carbon footprint meal, an allergen-free course, and a main course with at least 26g of protein, among other challenges.

Michael Jones, Catering Operations Manager, said:

“We are incredibly proud of our catering stars, Joanne, Karolina, Caroline, Sosana and Amanda. For two teams to make it to the national finals and for one to secure third place is an outstanding achievement!

“This national competition is consistently challenging and the effort our catering teams put in to represent the Trust just shows how dedicated they are, and how lucky we are to have them nourishing our patients and staff every day.

“A huge well done to both teams, let’s see what next year brings!”
