Professor Tony Warne visits Braeburn House
Our Chair, Professor Tony Warne, visited Braeburn House on Tuesday 24 February 2026 to meet the team and see how the service is developing. Braeburn House is a 28 bedded Level 2 rehab unit in Salford, commissioned by Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) and delivered by Elysium Healthcare. During the visit, Tony met with Vanessa Heyworth (GMMH Quality Matron), Rodwell Mabena, Jenny McVinnie and Zsara Thomas from Elysium, and several members of the nursing team.
The unit supports men who need rehabilitation to build confidence and move towards more independent living. Tony spent time on the wards talking with colleagues about what is going well and where the pressures sit.
Both organisations are exploring how to make the service more sustainable, including changes to registration and funding. Work with partners is also progressing to make sure the service keeps adapting to what people need.
After his visit Tony shared his reflections and said:
“What struck me most was the commitment shared by both GMMH and Elysium colleagues to delivering compassionate, high quality rehabilitation. As we look to the future, I’m excited about the opportunities we have to work even more closely together. Strengthening this partnership will help ensure that the people who rely on Braeburn House continue to receive the very best support on their recovery journey.”
