Parent Governors at Cloughside College

We are looking to recruit a Parent Governor to the Governing Body of Cloughside College.

Cloughside College logoCloughside College is a hospital school set within the grounds of Prestwich Hospital. All of our students have mental health issues and are aged 13-19 years old. The college functions to provide continuity of education and care whilst our students are being treated at the hospital. This means that our intake is transient and from a wide range of locations (up to nationwide due to the specialised nature of our setting).

Governors hold the most important voluntary role in a school. They provide a strategic management structure. Governors help to raise standards of achievement and make important decisions which shape the future direction of the school. Governor meetings are twice a term (one for the full governing body and one for each sub-committee per term). Governors are also invited in to school for link visits and end of term celebration events to showcase student achievement.

An understanding of a mental health setting would be desirable. Personal qualities such as enthusiasm, organisation and commitment are required. If you have experience of or involvement with secondary aged and post 16 students this would be beneficial.

To become a parent governor you do not have to have a child at our school - our intake changes rapidly and hence so do our parents and carers. You have to be a parent or carer of a child of school age to qualify as a parent governor. The post would be subject to a DBS check and considerations given for safeguarding and safer recruitment procedures.

If you would like to make a difference to the lives of young people with mental health conditions by contributing strategically to our school community, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Please take a look at our website - www.cloughside.co.uk. You could use the skills and experience gained in your personal or professional life to improve the lives of young people at Cloughside. We would like to ensure that every student receives the best possible standard of education whilst they are at Cloughside. If you are interested in becoming a parent governor, please arrange to come and meet the chair of governors, Sally Claydon and head teacher Farzana Shah for an informal visit. Our telephone number is 0161 772 4625 and you can email us at cloughside@bury.gov.uk.
