Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust has officially begun the construction of its new state-of-the-art mental health inpatient unit on the North Manchester General Hospital site.

The Greater Manchester Liaison and Diversion (L&D) Service at Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust has been commended in the ‘Liaison & Diversion’ category for this year for their Out of Court Disposal Pathway in partnership with Greater Manchester Police. 

The Empowered Conversations research study has been working with carers organisations across Greater Manchester to recruit carers of people living with dementia to the trial.

This year over 3,500 people have already received help from support centres, which offer out of hours mental health support.

Suicide rates are higher in males than females across all age groups, and highest in men aged 40-54 years. The suicide rate for men in this age group is three times higher than the rate for women of the same age, and 1.5 times greater than the rate for men in other age groups.

Last Friday, we were delighted to welcome colleagues and friends to our Research & Innovation Knowledge and Skills Day at The Curve in Prestwich.  

Adele McKie (GMMH Assistant Director of Finance) recently won the John Andrews Award. This award recognises a finance colleague who has shown care and compassion to support the health and well-being of colleagues during the 12 months preceding the award.

GMMH's Finance team were recently shortlisted in the Public Finance Awards 2022 for Finance Team of the Year – Health – and our Marketing and Communications team were Highly Commended in the NHS Communicate Awards for Best Use of Digital Communications and Engagement Award.

Dr Hannah Cappleman, Consultant Psychiatrist at Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH), has been shortlisted in the prestigious Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych) Awards.

Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) and Emmaus, the charity working at ending homelessness, have joined forces on an ‘Arts for Good Health’ project.

Black History Month is a time to reflect on the racism and discrimination experienced by many Black and other racialised people. Despite decades of research, it is unfortunately still the case that being Black is linked to poorer outcomes of psychosis care.

The technology, called Brayden Online, combines a traditional mannequin with an iOS application which uses a cloud server, allowing staff to undertake CPR training at a time, date and location that is flexible for them.

Filippo Varese, Head of the Complex Trauma and Resilience Research Unit (C-TRU), a collaboration between GMMH and the University of Manchester, has been awarded the May Davidson Award by The British Psychological Society (BPS).

A series of embroidered portraits, created by service users from Recovery Pathways during a Black Arts Project, is currently being shown in an exhibition at The Curve, Prestwich from 17 October – 11 November 2022.

Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust joins Manchester Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) to lead mental health research.

A project run by GMMH - using a technology called ‘Management and Supervision Tool’ (MaST) to support clinical care and patient safety in Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs), has been recognised in the National Positive Practice in Mental Health Awards 2022.
