Carers Week (10-16 June) is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.

The Moorside Unit in Trafford has had a long-standing and dedicated volunteer team for many years with a diverse group of volunteers. 

Our Community Addiction services, known as ‘Achieve’, focus on delivering innovative substance use treatment and recovery services in the community across Bury, Bolton, Salford, and Trafford.

At GMMH, we really value the skills that people with lived experience can bring with them. As such, we want to celebrate those supporting us as Volunteer Peer Mentors in services, utilising their own experiences of mental health and substance use difficulties to support those who may be struggling.

National Volunteering Week is an opportunity for us to say thank you to all of our GMMH volunteers for their hard work and support. Their dedication, compassion and support across the Trust has had an overwhelmingly positive impact on those who use our services, their families/carers and our staff.

Based at the Victoria Park Centre, Longsight, Manchester, this multi-disciplinary service provides assessment and time limited treatment for those in Later Life with complex mental health needs requiring intensive assessment or input and therapies. 

The Greater Manchester Mental Health Tactical Advice Service (MHTAS) consists of a small team of Senior Mental Health Practitioners based within the Greater Manchester Police (GMP) Control Room to provide real-time clinical advice to police officers via telephone for them to make more informed decisions when dealing with members of the public in potential crisis.

As part of GMMH's Green Plan, our Transport Department have undertaken a project to start transitioning our existing petrol and diesel vehicles to electric models, to help align with the NHS Target of achieving Net Zero by 2040, whilst also aligning with targets set in GMMH's Green Plan. 

Madelaine Ackers, Deputy Chief Pharmacy Technician at Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH), has won Trafford and Stockport College Group’s Higher Education ‘Apprentice of the Year’ award for the Level 5 Management course.  

The National Guardian Office  has recognised GMMH as one of the top 10 most improved organisations for speaking up in 2023, according to the NHS Staff Survey. 

Our Board were recently invited to a taster session to try a new, innovative menu which is being rolled out across GMMH, to services where in-house catering is served.

A new Greater Manchester mental health research project has received £1.5m in funding from the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR).

Wigan Borough Living Well has joined forces with Wigan Athletic, Wigan Warriors and Be-Well Wigan to pilot a 12-week Well-Being programme.

Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) has launched a series of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) support groups to help women manage symptoms of menopause. 

A time capsule has been buried at the construction site of Manchester’s brand-new adult mental health inpatient unit, North View.

As part of our Trust wide campaign to support staff and service users to become smoke free, our Chair, Chief Finance Officer and Medical Director have  signed the NHS Smokefree Pledge.

Last month, we marked a significant milestone in our journey towards recovery and creativity at Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH). As part of the Recovery Pathways open days, we embarked on an exciting venture – the launch of a transformative textiles project inspired by the ancient Japanese art of Sashiko, known for its meditative and reparative qualities. 

The medium secure centre, which is run by Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH), provides individualised care and treatment for people with enduring mental health needs. A wide range of treatment is available including psychological and other therapeutic interventions and clinical teams work collaboratively with the service user towards their recovery and discharge.  

We have been awarded the National Preceptorship for Nursing Quality Mark for our Preceptorship Programme here at GMMH in April 2024.
