NHS 111 Mental Health to replace 0800-helpline

Following the roll out of NHS 111 Mental Health, our 0800 helpline will close at 8am on Monday 3 November 2025.

You can continue to quickly and easily access urgent mental health support by phoning 111 and selecting mental health option 2.

NHS 111 mental health is for people of all ages who need urgent mental health support. For example, feeling mentally unsafe or severely distressed.

It’s available 24/7, free of charge and you can call for yourself or someone else.

Although NHS 111 Mental Health is a national service, you’ll be connected to your local team. A practitioner will listen and help you get the urgent support you need.

With your permission, they can access your patient notes if you’ve previously received mental health support. This will reduce you having to repeat information and allow them to better support you.

We always planned to close the 0800 number once our NHS 111 Mental Health team was established.

You’ll now only have to remember one simple number that you can call anytime, anywhere.

NHS 111 Mental Health is provided jointly by us and Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, along with voluntary, community and social enterprise colleagues. Pennine Care will also close their 0800 helpline at the same time.

We're working together to make sure everyone knows about the changes. As a safeguard, people who phone the 0800-helpline numbers after 3 November will be redirected to NHS 111 Mental Health via an answerphone message.
