New Mental Health Centre for Young People celebrated with Successful Launch Event

Picture of the Junction 17 opening evening with the Christmas lights turned on.

New multimillion-pound mental health centre for young people, Junction 17 (J17) officially opened its doors last month with a launch event where Dame Kelly Holmes attended and shared her experiences of mental health.

Also speaking at the event was former service user Corey who now champions the service and mental health as a whole. Both speakers were inspirational and the feedback from guests who attended was exceptional.

The atmosphere at the event was electric and it was standing room only as the guests which included young people from the unit filled the room. Tours of the new unit were offered to guests before the main event. Dame Kelly Holmes was escorted through the new build and was able to speak with those staying at the unit.

The event’s final activities included beautiful Christmas carols sung by the GMW choir and a switch on of the Christmas tree lights. A group of young people and Dame Kelly Holmes switched on the lights of the Christmas tree that sits directly outside J17’s doors.

Overall the event was a success - thank you to all that attended. Hit the play button in the centre of the below slideshow and sit back to enjoy a selection of photographs from the event.
