More Recovery Football Success

Just months after winning the Café Hub Recovery League, the Blackburn with Darwen Recovery Football Team, Regent FC, have proved successful again!

Organised by the Well recovery service in Lancaster, eight teams from recovery services based in the Lancashire area were involved in a league and knockout style tournament.

The first round saw all the entered teams play each other twice, with the top four meeting in the semi-finals.

Our boys from Blackburn breezed through their semi-final game with a 1-0 win after 90 minutes. The final of the tournament was a closely fought stalemate, finishing 0-0 in standard time.

The game progressed to a penalty shoot-out to determine a winner and it was Regent FC who claimed the trophy with a 3-2 win.

The team comprised of Recovery Coach Waheed ‘Woody’ Wilayat, Regent House clients, volunteers and peer mentors.

The team access their physical exercise, well-being group and circuit training group through the service at Regent House. Woody said: “The managers there [at Regent House] recognise how regular exercise can help clients in their recovery journeys; most clients that access the groups and the football team are alcohol and drug free”.

Congratulations once more to the team!
