Laureate House Update: 02 April 2026

We want to keep everyone updated about the work that is ongoing to support the service users and staff affected by the unexpected significant estates issues affecting the use of Laureate House, situated in the grounds of Wythenshawe Hospital. An independent condition survey has advised that the low temperature hot water heating pipework throughout the building needs to be replaced, and our estates teams are working through how this can be done safely.

While this work is being planned, the following temporary changes have helped us maintain safe care:

  • Bronte Ward has moved to Fern Ward at North View.
  • Fern Ward became available as people moved on through planned rehabilitation pathways.
  • Blake Ward has moved to Griffin Ward at Prestwich Hospital.
  • The mother and baby service from Andersen Ward is being supported in the community and through partner organisations, and we are exploring the future use of Loweswater at Prestwich.
  • Cavendish Ward for older people is temporarily closed, with later life beds supported across the Trust and with support from Pennine Care Foundation Trust.

There are no inpatient services in Laureate House at the moment. Other services continue to operate safely from the building.

Inpatient services will stay in their temporary locations until repairs are complete. We will keep sharing updates as soon as more detail on timelines becomes available.

Keeping our patients and staff safe remains our priority, and there have been no safety incidents linked to these moves.
