HCA Chef Showcase awards GMMH duo a silver medal and the newly created Causeway Award

Six adults pose together at a Hospitality Week event in front of a white backdrop displaying logos including “Compass Group UK & I”. Three people in chef uniforms - two branded NHS England - stand with three formally dressed individuals, with two people in the centre holding a silver award. One person on the right wears a chef’s jacket with a medal.

We are proud to share that two members of our catering team impressed the judges at a national cooking competition, earning a silver medal and an award for the best dish of the day.

Amanda Barber and Sosana Sukhan, from our Prestwich site, competed in the Hospital Caterers Association (HCA) Chef Showcase, which took place at the Hotel, Restaurant and Catering Show (International Salon Culinaire) at ExCeL London on Monday 30 March 2026.

The pair competed alongside six teams of NHS chefs from across the UK, all showcasing their culinary talents.

The challenge was to cook and present a three-course meal suitable for serving to patients in a hospital, meeting certain nutritional guidelines, costing £8 or less, within just one hour.

Dishes were judged by chef from across the hospitality industry.

Amanda and Sosana were awarded a silver medal and also picked up the newly created ‘Causeway Award’ for the best dish of the day. The award is named in memory of past winner Darren Taggart from Northern Ireland, who was a past Best-in-Class winner.

Michael Jones, Catering Operations Manager, said:

"Amanda and Sosana have certainly done themselves, and the Trust, proud with their efforts at such a fantastic event at ExCeL London, competing against some of the best healthcare chefs in the country. This follows their success in the NHS Chef of the Year competition in 2025, where they achieved an impressive third place overall.”

Congratulations Amanda and Sosana!
