GMMH’s Finance Department are PQ Magazine’s Accountancy Team of the Year

The Trust’s Finance Team won the PQ Magazine Accountancy Team of the Year Award on 20 February 2018
The award, presented at Café De Paris in London, was collected by team members Helen Billington, Rebecca Howard, Melanie DeGriffa and Khuram Mahmood.
PQ is a magazine for part-qualified accountants, and Khuram, Mel and Rebecca are studying for their accountancy qualifications. The awards recognise the achievements accountancy students, apprentices, colleges and training providers, as well as accountancy teams nationally.
The team were nominated for their work during the acquisition of Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust, going above and beyond their 'normal business as usual' processes, to ensure the safe and smooth transition of the Manchester Mental Health finance staff, and to integrate them within the wider team.
Following the acquisition decision, the teams worked closely together, identifying 'buddies' so that colleagues from Manchester had a personal point of contact and attending an 'away day' in November 2016.
Both teams identified areas where further work was required to streamline the two finance functions into one co-ordinated team, developing new reporting and governance requirements.
The team also worked closely with Grant Thornton, who undertook the work on the Reporting Accountant opinion. Their audit confirmed that the team were very approachable, responsive and efficient, and had a positive outlook in responding to the challenges with much reduced timescales.
Ismail Hafeji, Director of Finance and IM&T, said: : “I am delighted that the team have received this award and they have been recognised for their hard work, professionalism and dedication during the acquisition of Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust, for which I am very proud.
“I would like to congratulate every member of the team for this achievements as it is well deserved."
