GMMH and Pennine Care start programme to procure an electronic patient record (EPR) system
Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) and Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust have started a major programme to procure an electronic patient record (EPR) system over the next three years. Both Trusts’ current EPR contracts expire in 2028 and this joint approach will ensure a smooth transition to a shared system that meets future needs.
A joint EPR will enable both Trusts to deliver more integrated, efficient, and patient-centred care through unified patient records, better information sharing across Greater Manchester health services, and smarter resource use - directly supporting the NHS 10-year plan for digitally-enabled, integrated care.
The first phase for the programme is to develop a strategic outline case (SOC), running from November 2025 to January 2026. This phase will define the overall approach and shared ambitions for the future EPR system, supported by Channel 3 Consulting who bring expertise in digital transformation in health and social care.
A joint digital programme board has been established with clinical and digital representation from both organisations. The board, chaired by Antony Hassall, Chief Executive of Pennine Care, will guide the programme from strategic planning through to implementation.
Further updates will be shared as the programme moves into the next phase of planning.
