Watch Dr Abhishek Goli tell us about his cultural heritage; and read about Dr Samir Shah’s recent national recognition.

Last month was South Asian Heritage Month, and we took the opportunity to speak with colleagues across the Trust with South Asian heritage to hear about their heritage and how it enriches their work within NHS mental health services.

This week, meet Abhi, our Deputy Chief Medical officer!

Watch the video below to hear Abhi talk about his cultural heritage, and how it enriches his work within NHS mental health services.

Samir wins national BIPA award

We are delighted to announce that Dr Samir Shah, Deputy Chief Medical Officer at GMMH, was recently honoured with an award at the prestigious British Indian Psychological Association (BIPA) Annual Awards 2025-26: Celebrating Excellence in Psychiatry.

The British Indian Psychological Association (BIPA) is the largest organisation for psychiatrists in UK after the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

BIPA was established in 1995 and is the leading diaspora organisation for psychiatrists in UK. Since gaining charity status in 2016, it has been extending its reach to bridge cultural gaps in psychiatric care and champion the needs of all patients from diaspora communities in the UK.

A huge congratulations to Samir for this excellent achievement!

"Diaspora” refers to people who have heritage outside of the country where they live, and maintain connections to it through culture, traditions, identity, religion, or community. Read more on the BBC Bitesize website.

For South Asian Heritage Month, BIPA brought together a special collection that brings together the voices and talents of their members through poetry, photography, artwork and stories. Visit the collection on the BIPA website.
