On Monday 10 November, we hosted a visit from Daniel Elkeles, the Chief Executive of NHS Providers. NHS Providers is the membership organisation for NHS hospital, mental health, community and ambulance services that treat patients and service users in the English NHS. Their role is to ensure that the voices of NHS trusts are heard in discussions about healthcare policy and funding, and they work closely with government and other stakeholders to influence decisions that affect patient care and service delivery.

The visit took place at North View and started with a working lunch, sampling a selection of patient food prepared by the catering team, which was presented by Head Chef, Karolina Morawiec. Daniel commented:

“The food is something of a revelation. The menu has been co-created with patients, uses sustainable ingredients and it was absolutely delicious.”

Daniel was then shown around the hospital and visited Blossom and Meadow Wards. This included talking to Service Users and a demonstration of the immersive room by Activity Coordinator Pauline Brown. Clinicians Rufus May, Mahesh Gopakumar, and Kishen Neelam were able to explain the excellent work being done across the Trust and how excellent inpatient provision enables our priority to ensure people receive the right support at the right time and in the right place, embracing a ‘community-first’ approach.

The visit concluded with a presentation from the team involved in the REACH initiative, our multi-awarding winning anti-racism programme. Loveness Ncube, Alison Scholfield, WingYee Li and Carl Okuonghae described the work, what it had achieved and the awards it had won.

Daniel was very impressed with what he saw, even mentioning the visit on an interview with BBC Breakfast TV the following morning.

Daniel concluded:

“There is so much for the trust to be proud of.  Thank you so much for such a brilliant visit.”
