We are thrilled to hear that Carla Mobear, Perinatal Service Manager with the Specialist Perinatal Service, and Charles Tega Akporotu, Occupational Therapy Assistant within our Adult Forensic Services, have been shortlisted for the forthcoming Black Healthcare Awards, hosted by the  Caribbean & African Health Network (CAHN).

These awards celebrate Black professionals who have made a lasting impact within healthcare through excellence, leadership, and unwavering dedication to their communities.

Carla’s nomination is a reflection of her passion and commitment to supporting women during the most pivotal moments of their lives. On learning of the nomination, Carla said:

“I am truly lost for words to have been nominated and then to actually be shortlisted. I really appreciate the recognition.”

Under Carla's guidance, GMMH’s Specialist Perinatal Service has become a cornerstone for inclusive, compassionate mental healthcare for expectant and new mothers.

Charles was also thrilled to hear he had been shortlisted, stating:

"It is a great honour to be recognised. I am grateful for the support of my colleagues who positively impact me and help improve my work everyday."

We are delighted that Carla and Charles have received this well-deserved recognition and look forward to celebrating their achievements on awards night.

The Black Healthcare Awards ceremony, set to take on Saturday 12 July 2025 at the Park Plaza in London, celebrate trailblazers who are transforming the future of healthcare.
