Brand-new range of courses and resources for wellbeing launches

Today (05 October 2026) Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust’s Recovery Academy officially launches its brand-new autumn-winter term ahead of World Mental Health Day 2026 (10 October).

Whether you're seeking support for yourself or others, the Recovery Academy’s new term offers a wealth of face-to-face and online courses, and other resources, to help people stay well and grow.

The Recovery Academy is recognised nationally as a flagship Recovery College. It offers educational and awareness raising courses and resources, focusing on recovery, wellbeing, and shared learning. It brings together the expertise of people with both learned and lived/living experience.

The Recovery Academy is free to join and open to:

  •  the general public,
  • anyone who is experiencing mental health and/or addiction difficulties, and their supporters (family, friends, carers),
  • healthcare professionals and professionals from external organisations.

Amy Lawrence, Team Manager for the Recovery Academy, said:

“All our courses are co-produced and co-delivered with experts by experience - people who have real, lived experience in the topics we cover - whom I have loved getting to know since joining the team in January 2026.

“We spent the last term getting out into the community and listening to what our students want to see on offer, and getting feedback on what we can do to make courses and resources more accessible. And I am excited to announce that our autumn/winter term (October 2026 to March 2027) includes 5 new courses and a wealth of new digital resources for our students.

“That’s why we are proud to be supporting the ‘Real Voices, Real Change’ campaign for this year’s World Suicide Day on 10 October.”

The new term has over 60 face-to-face courses running in Bolton, Manchester, Prestwich, Salford, Trafford and Wigan. The five new courses on offer are: ‘Let’s Talk about Menopause’, ‘Understanding Body Dysmorphic Disorder’, ‘Understanding and Talking about ADHD’, ‘Talking about Trauma and Psychosis’ and the ‘Joy Workshop’.

The Recovery Academy is for everyone, and for people not able to travel to or participate in a face-to-face course, this term will see more online sessions available too, in subject areas such as ‘Building your Self Esteem’ and ‘Developing Assertiveness Skills’.

The range of digital resources also provide a convenient way to keep learning, support wellbeing, and be part of the Recovery Academy student community. New digital resources this term include: self-help tools in areas such as neurodiversity and parenting a child with mental health issues; a Media Hub full of podcasts, videos and audios to help relax, support, inform, or inspire you; and eLearning on having everyday conversations about mental health and wellbeing with confidence.

The Recovery Academy firmly believes in creating and supporting a positive mental health culture in all aspects of people’s lives, including the workplace. As well as the range of courses and resources for individuals, the Recovery Academy also provides bespoke training and resources for organisations. Partners who have received bespoke support include Metrolink, local housing associations, and Greater Manchester faith leaders.
