Greater Manchester NHS Trust celebrates Adult Learners’ Week 2015

Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMW) is hosting a Celebration of Learning Event during this years’ Adult Learners’ Week – which runs from 13 – 19 June 2015 – by inviting their staff, service users and people living in Greater Manchester to find out about all the learning opportunities available at the Trust.

The event will take place on Friday 19 June 2015 at Friends Meeting House in Central Manchester and will celebrate the learning achievements of GMW’s staff and service users and the difference this makes to individual, to patient and to organisational wellbeing.

Students from GMW’s different learning programmes – Health and Social Care Apprenticeships, Leadership and Management training, Recovery Academy courses, Alcohol & Substance Misuse Specialist Training, British Sign Language Training, Mental Health Nurse Training, Assistant Practitioner and Mentorship Training, and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Training - who have achieved a qualification in the past 12 months, will be awarded with a certificate of achievement at the ceremony.

During the event, delegates will hear from tutors about the different learning opportunities available to staff, service users and the general public across the Trust and will also take part in a taster session of one of the many courses the Trust’s Recovery Academy offers.

Adult Learners’ Week, which is run by NIACE, is a national celebration of lifelong learning; the biggest in England and is now in its 24th year. Adult Learners’ Week forms part of a Festival of Learning; an initiative from the wider education sector during May and June that offers thousands of opportunities to learn something new and discover how learning can transform lives.

Claire Watson, Recovery Academy Lead for GMW, said: “We are proud of the achievements that all of our learners have accomplished throughout the past 12 months and hosting a Celebration of Learning event during Adult Learners’ Week is the perfect opportunity to recognise this.

“Our Recovery Academy offers a wide range of Adult Learning courses so we encourage anyone who is thinking about trying something new to have a look at our latest prospectus and discover your thirst for learning."

GMW’s Celebration of Learning Event takes place on Friday 19th June 2015 from 10am-1pm at Friends Meeting House in Manchester. If you would like to attend please contact Helen Macklin on 0161 772 3782 or email her at helen.macklin@gmmh.nhs.uk before Friday 19th June 2015.
