Pharmacy Team wins Best Quality Improvement at the College of Mental Health Pharmacy Awards!
We're proud that our Pharmacy Team, working with colleagues from Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust and Stockport Integrated Care board, won ‘Best Quality Improvement’ at the College of Mental Health Pharmacy Awards.
This award recognises their work to improve the prescribing and management of Promazine, an antipsychotic medication, making care safer and more effective.
Their project addresses Greater Manchester’s use of Promazine, an older antipsychotic often inappropriately prescribed for agitation and rarely reviewed.
As a result, we spend around £4.5M on this medication annually despite its low therapeutic value, with the majority of prescribing occurring within Primary Care. Recent funding from the ICB will support our pharmacy staff to carry out patient-level reviews and safely de-prescribe Promazine.
Steve Buckley, Associate Director of Pharmacy said:
“The College of Mental Health Pharmacy brings together pharmacy professionals specialising in mental health (Primary & Secondary Care) to share best practice & undertake continuing professional development. So to have our work recognised by our peers is a great achievement.”
