The Way Ahead is choosing a new name
More than 1,500 people voted for the preferred name for new Trust
The results are in after the vote for the preferred new name, for the proposed combined organisation following Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust and Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust joining forces on the first of January 2017.
“Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust” was chosen by 70 per cent of more than 1,500 voters, who included staff from both Trusts, service users and carers from both organisations, service commissioners (NHS England and six Clinical Commissioning Groups), associated Local Authority partners, neighbouring Trusts, Healthwatch organisations for Manchester, Bolton, Salford and Trafford and some voluntary sector organisations.
Three options were presented, which followed NHS guidelines, including indicating the type of service provided by the Trust, and the relevant geographical association. Voting took place on the internet and via postcards handed out across the region. The shortlist and voting results were:
1. Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust – 70 per cent
2. Greater Manchester Mental Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust - 22 per cent
3. Greater Manchester Central and West NHS Foundation Trust - 8 per cent
