Empowered Conversations – A communication course for family and carers of people living with dementia
Dementia can disrupt communications. Empowered Conversations offers family and carers a chance to pause and reflect on how they communicate with loved ones living with dementia.
This course uses a range of discussion formats, exercises and films to explore communication over four sessions. Throughout the course, attendees will be able to think about how emotions impact on conversations and what gets in the way of us having the conversations we want to have.
Attendees will also be introduced to different ways to communicate and start conversations. After each session, attendees will be encouraged to put in to practice what has been discussed and bringtheir learning back to the next session.
By the end of the course you will have:
- Explored emotions (yours and the person living with dementia) and considered how these impact on communications
- Identified barriers to communication within your own relationships
- Explored different approaches to communication, and
- Shared and listened to other carers in similar situations
“When you are living with a loved one suffering from dementia it is very hard to get support and help - so I am very grateful.”
