About our service
The Healthcare Team at the Secure Childrens' Homes (SCH’s) is a new and exciting innovative partnership between Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) and Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
The SCH’s are based in Salford and St Helens, the health team offer services onsite. The SCH’s provide high quality residential care to boys and girls aged between 11 and 18. The boys and girls can come from anywhere in England.
It is widely recognised that children who require admission to secure units suffer a higher rate of mental and physical health problems than the wider population. Our services endeavour to work collaboratively, in the best interests of the children. Information must be shared to ensure that the team around the child has the information they need to meet the child’s health and wellbeing needs. A named lead healthcare professional takes responsibility for each child’s healthcare but all staff need a shared understanding of the key factors affecting children’s health and wellbeing.
Our interventions are delivered both individually and in groups, we utilise diverse therapy modalities such as Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
Our aims for the SCH’s are:
- To improve children’s health and wellbeing
- To improve access to healthcare
- To ensure that the healthcare the children receive should be the same as the healthcare they get on the outside
